Established in 1872, the Tokyo National Museum is the oldest and largest museum in Japan. It is located within the Ueno Park in Taito and showcases a wealth of fine art, antiquities, archaeological objects, as well as the world's biggest collection of Japanese art. The museum is separated into five different sections - the Japanese Gallery, the Asian Gallery, the Hyokeikan, the Heiseikan Gallery and the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures (Horyuji Homotsukan). Each gallery exhibits various items of historical or cultural significance ranging from Asian archaeological artifacts to traditional Buddhist sculptures to priceless treasures of ancient temples. A number of small restaurants and outlets are also available within the premises of the museum.

Designated prayer room facilities at the Tokyo National Museum are not available, but it is possible to visit one of the mosques located within the city of Tokyo.
Though a few restaurants and food outlets are available at the Tokyo National Museum, Halal food might not be readily available within the premises of the museum. Visitors may go to one of the Halal restaurants that are located in Tokyo for Halal food.
